Back in November, it was reported that RDJ would play “multiple supporting roles as the main antagonists in The Sympathizer, all of whom represent a different arm of the American establishment.” In December, he confessed in an interview that he was “literally playing five different roles” for the new HBO series that is expected to be a hit.
The HBO series is adapted from the 2015 debut novel by Vietnamese-American professor Viet Thanh Nguyen. Downey Jr.’s involvement in the show as an actor and executive producer was announced in July 2021.
